The fable of Kabisa the Dog and Kidogo the Donkey

A donkey and a dog belonged to the same master.

The donkey, called Kidogo*, had only one job to do:

Pull the cart full of empty containers to the river.

Then, when his master had filled them with water, bring the cart home.

It wasn't much, but it was all his master expected of him.

The dog was a coquettish little poodle

Who loved pirouetting around and playing with children,

barking and chasing the neighborhood chickens.

He could be seen or heard almost everywhere, all the time.

Kabisa* was his name.

Un âne et un chien appartenait au même maître.

L’âne, appelé Kidogo, n’avait qu’une seule tâche à faire :

Tirer la charrette pleine de bidons vides jusqu’à la rivière.

Puis, quand son maitre les avait remplis d’eau,

Ramener la charrette à la maison.

C’était peu, mais c’était tout ce que son maitre attendait de lui.

Le chien était un caniche coquet et espiègle

Qui aimait faire des pirouettes, jouer avec les enfants,

Aboyer et poursuivre les poules du quartier

On le voyait presque partout et tout le temps

Et on l’appelait Kabisa.
